Our mission
African Green Thumbs is on a mission to decentralise the African food system, empowering individuals, communities and corporations to contribute to improving education, health, well-being and economic growth across the continent.
Our story
African Green Thumbs was established to empower food-insecure communities to grow their own food, become self-sufficient, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Africa.
We designed a revolutionary new growing system called The African Grower and with it we are establishing blueprints for the implementation of agricultural development programmes and training, accelerating the work of organisations in this area.

Young Mandelas 2024
We’re proud to share that the inventor of The African Grower, Louis-Gillis Janse van Rensberg, has been selected as one of News24’s Young Mandelas, in the innovation category.
News24 highlighted the invention of the African Grower, and our work as a “testament to his commitment to Mandela’s legacy of transformative change.”
